Quick update

Hey people,

Just a quick update about WannaBeHomesick and why I have not been updating the blog. Two reasons:

1. I am no longer an international student in the US. I moved to Canada, where I am a permanent resident and I now go to school there.

2. I have a new blog/website which I now focus on, check it out.

I'm not closing the blog as there is a ton of information on here that is still helpful. I just will not be  posting any new content.

Best wishes to you all.

I'm not gone

I'm not officially back yet, school is almost over...ALMOST!

I miss blogging though. I recently moved to Canada so it's really different posting about studying in the US and living in Canada. But I still know a lot about this, and no knowledge is lost.

It makes me happy that people still email me and ask questions, etc. Makes me want to keep doing this.

I'll keep posting...keep visiting the blog.

External scholarships.....FastWeb, etc. Are they worth it?

There are a ton of external scholarships out there. FastWeb is one of the most popular ones out there? Are they really worth it?

F-1 Visa: Further administrative processing required? Meaning.....

It's happened several times. After your visa interview,  you're told that a visa won't be issued to you just yet, as further administrtive processing is required.

I may have covered this subject already.

What I advise people in this situation to do is ask for clarification. What does this entail? Yes, the Consular Officer may try to lie to you or sugar coat the truth, but this will help put your mind at ease and give you some sort of idea about what is going on.

You should also keep in mind that the further administrative phrase isn't a bad thing. It doesn't mean your visa has been denied, as if this were the case - you're passport would be given back to you and you would be told that your interview was unsuccessful.

In some cases, applicants have found out that they share a name with a terrorist, or other shady stuff which requires further background checks before your visa can be issued.

Some applicants have been denied a visa after being told that they were going to undergo administrative processing. Weeks later, they receive their passport in the mail telling them that they have been unsuccessful.

The further administrative processing phrase yield different results in different scenarios.

Good luck!

How do people pay for business schools (MBA)?

Question: Business schools, specifically MBA's are expensive. Harvard for example costs somewhere around 85k per year. How do people afford it?

Student loans (federal and private). A majority of people take out student loans in order to go back to school.

Scholarships and fellowships. Very competitive, but a great source of funding.

Employer sponsorships: An amazing employer decides to pay for that expensive MBA.  **AMAZING** Like you can imagine, this has gotten less common thanks to the recession.

MBA's are EXPENSIVE!! At the end of the day, my advise to you is: do your research! You could do an MSc in Finance, Accountancy, or something of that nature that may be a better field as opposed to an MBA.

Thank you so much!!!

After about a year of posting on this blog, I am finally officially recognized by Google. I now have a pagerank of 3. Woot woot.

This is huge to me, I've always wanted a pagerank. Just last month or so, my pagerank was 0. I'm hoping for a 10 one day. A girl can dream right?? Lol.

Thanks to everyone for reading, commenting and being a part of this.

In my 2nd year, I plan to do more posts about education in Canada as I become more familiar with this beautiful country.
