F-1 Visa: Further administrative processing required? Meaning.....

It's happened several times. After your visa interview,  you're told that a visa won't be issued to you just yet, as further administrtive processing is required.

I may have covered this subject already.

What I advise people in this situation to do is ask for clarification. What does this entail? Yes, the Consular Officer may try to lie to you or sugar coat the truth, but this will help put your mind at ease and give you some sort of idea about what is going on.

You should also keep in mind that the further administrative phrase isn't a bad thing. It doesn't mean your visa has been denied, as if this were the case - you're passport would be given back to you and you would be told that your interview was unsuccessful.

In some cases, applicants have found out that they share a name with a terrorist, or other shady stuff which requires further background checks before your visa can be issued.

Some applicants have been denied a visa after being told that they were going to undergo administrative processing. Weeks later, they receive their passport in the mail telling them that they have been unsuccessful.

The further administrative processing phrase yield different results in different scenarios.

Good luck!

  2. F-1 visa is fairly simple to apply for and lets you stay & travel throughout the U.S as long as you are a student and also provides you opportunity to bring your Spouse and any children under the age of 21 into the country while you are here studying.
